For a good working relationship, we need committed employers, where the welfare of all persons in their household, including that of their housekeeper, is a concern.

Most housekeepers in Austria are still working undocumented - without accident insurance or social security - despite it being (in most cases) very easy and very low cost for employers to create legal employment.

FairHelp Austria is a non-profit association dedicated to safe working conditions in private households.

  • We are neutral - independent - committed to human rights.
  • We advise employees and employers.
  • We are your contact for all matters relating to private employment relations.

We advise

you and your housekeeper regarding the possibilities and implications of official employment and accompany you at all necessary steps to legalisation and beyond.

We offer

forms and information material in many languages, translations for those with language barriers and help with issues you might encounter.

We assist

you in the search for a reliable FairHelp employee* in case you never had a housekeeper or your previous housekeeper has left.

* We solely provide information and contacts between FairHelp members - we are not a commercial recruitment agency!

We support

you, on request, from the first contact on to the entire employment relationship

As an employer, I do not wish to commit to anything. Can I still make use of FairHelp Austria’s consulting service anyhow?

► for Sponsor Membership

A FairHelp Austria employer is personally known to at least one other association member (How do I join?). He/she is obliged to behave in a correct and fair manner towards their employee. If you should experience problems with a FairHelp Austria employee, they will try to find a solution and will in any case inform the association before the issue results in a termination of the employment by the employer (statutes).

If you just wish to take advantage of our consulting service without any personal obligation, becoming a sponsoring member could also be an option.

"My Polish housekeeper does not speak German well and I had problems explaining things to her. FairHelp Austria has translated a written message from me within a very short time into Polish. The next time she came I simply placed the note on the kitchen table and she could easily understand what I had asked of her. A great service!"

"I wanted to employ my housekeeper legally, but did not know how to do so. The volunteer staff of FairHelp Austria have not only explained everything clearly to me, but have also advised my housekeeper, starting from social security right through to German courses in her mother tongue. It really pays off to be a member!"

"Thanks for your support in the search for a new housekeeper! The contact was worth gold!"
